Arctic Trailer Starring Mads Mikkelsen

If you’re a fan of survival thrillers, it looks like we may have another worthy entry into the genre on the horizon. Arctic is the feature directorial debut of Brazilian musician and YouTube star Joe Penna, but contrary to what you might expect from a YouTube personality, this film is a quiet yet gripping story of a man fighting to survive in the Arctic wilderness following a plane crash. It stars Mads Mikkelsen in a powerhouse performance and earned solid reviews at Cannes last year. Described as the “anti-Cast Away”, it is supposedly a grounded, minimalistic experience with very little dialogue. Consider me intrigued. Arctic hits select theatres on Feb. 1st; check out the trailer after the jump and see what you think.

Love MM! Looking forward to seeing this!

Saw this last year at NZIFF and loved it (my favourite film of the festival…well, maybe a tie for first with Leave No Trace). Not sure why some people are calling it the anti-Castaway though? Perhaps because it’s even smaller in scale than Castaway was (but in a far grander location). Everything about this film felt authentic (sometimes painfully so); even the bear!

Love survival movies and this looks awesome. 6/5 based on how much this would suck in real life.
