Over the past little while we’ve been hearing whispers about a lost cult classic that may or may not have been an influence on the Chris Columbus / John Hughes holiday mainstay Home Alone. It is a 1989 French movie that has gone under many titles over the years including 3615 code Père Noël, Deadly Games, Dial Code Santa Claus and Hide and Freak and it is essentially a horror version of Home Alone that finds an action movie-obsessed kid setting death traps in a high tech mansion while an unsavoury mall Santa tries to catch him. After premiering at Fantastic Fest a few months ago, the American Genre Film Archive’s 2K restoration of the film is currently making the rounds at various rep cinemas including the Alama Drafthouse (it is also playing at The Royal in Toronto tomorrow night). A Blu-ray is also supposedly in the works, but either way this looks like an absolute must-see. Check out the trailer after the jump and let us know what you think.
