Well that didn’t take long. Less than two days after Kevin Hart officially confirmed that he would be hosting the 2019 Academy Awards, he has already stepped down. It all has to do with controversial tweets from his past (an increasingly common occurrence) that appear to be anti-gay and make use of homophobic language. Hart was supposedly offered the opportunity to apologize for these comments, but instead he chose to drop out as Oscar host. He made the announcement last night on Instagram:
It’s all a bit strange considering that he did sort of apologize in the end, he just chose to do it on his own terms. However, he took a while to get there, which is not really endearing him to his critics. Perhaps his decision is for the best considering that the controversy would probably have continued to follow him either way. Now the Academy is heading back to the drawing board to find a new host. Who would you like to see host the Oscars?
