Dumbo Trailer #2

Here’s the new trailer for Tim Burton’s upcoming live-action remake of the 1941 animated classic Dumbo. The cast includes Colin Farrell, Danny DeVito, Michael Keaton, Eva Green and Alan Arkin, but of course the real star of the show is the CG creation at the center of the story which manages to strike a balance between cartoony and photorealistic. Yes, it’s true… you will believe an elephant can fly. The original film is just over an hour long, however, so they will also be expanding the story with the plot synopsis hinting that “beneath its shiny veneer, Dreamland is full of dark secrets.” Sounds like a Tim Burton movie? Dumbo hits theatres on March 29th; check out the trailer after the jump and see what you think.

I saw the original Dumbo once in a theater as a child – believe it was the 30th anniversary release. Yet, have never watched it again because it is too depressing.

As a kid, I wrote book reports on elephants, cut out magazine pictures of the animals and taped them to my bedroom walls, collected figurines, and forty-odd years later – still have the majority of those same items among my treasures.

I will never watch this new version, but I hope it leads younger viewers to understand there is a fundamental problem with keeping elephants in close captivity and it will lead them to make a better world.
