After decades of being gunshy when it comes to movie adaptations of their properties, Nintendo is finally getting reacquainted with Hollywood. We know that a CG-animated Super Mario Brothers movie is in the works at Illumination Entertainment, but first Legendary is making… a Detective Pikachu movie? Featuring Ryan Reynolds as the voice of Pikachu? Yeah this is a pretty weird one, and it’s even more odd when you consider that they have yet to simply attempt a straight up live-action Pokemon movie. Instead we are getting a Who Framed Roger Rabbit?-style mystery with borderline photorealistic CG Pokemon where Pikachu teams up with the son of a famous private eye to find his father after he disappears. Directed by Rob Letterman (Goosebumps), the movie stars Justice Smith, Bill Nighy, Suki Waterhouse and Ken Watanabe and it hits theatres on May 11th.
