Missing Link Trailer: LAIKA’s Latest Stop-Motion Marvel

Animated movies about yetis seem to be having a moment right now with Smallfoot currently in theatres, DreamWorks planning to release Abominable next year, and now we have the first trailer for LAIKA’s next film, Missing Link. Directed by Chris Butler (ParaNorman), the movie stars Hugh Jackman as the voice of Sir Lionel Frost, an explorer who discovers the legendary creature (voiced by Zach Galifianakis) then sets about proving his existence to the rest of the world. The trailer is set to Paul Simon’s “Me and Julio Down by the Schoolyard”, which seems like a not-so-subtle way to associate it with Wes Anderson’s stop-motion films. This is LAIKA’s first release distributed by Annapurna Pictures so perhaps they are taking a new approach and trying to market it to an art house crowd as opposed to mainstream family audiences. Missing Link also features the voices of Zoe Saldana, Emma Thompson, Stephen Fry, Timothy Olyphant and Matt Lucas and it hits theatres on April 12th. Check out the trailer after the jump and let us know what you think.
