Miss Bala Trailer Starring Gina Rodriguez

After turning in a pretty badass performance in Annihilation earlier this year, it looks like a new career path is opening up for Gina Rodriguez. She is taking on another fairly action-heavy role in the upcoming remake of Miss Bala, which finds her playing a woman kidnapped by a drug cartel and forced to smuggle drug money. This certainly looks a lot glossier than the original 2011 film by Gerardo Naranjo, and on top of that her character does not appear to be a beauty pageant contestant, which sort of calls into question the actual title of the movie. But since when did U.S. remakes ever concern themselves with being accurate to the source material? Miss Bala is directed by Catherine Hardwicke (Lords of Dogtown, Twilight) and it hits theatres on Feb. 1st. Check out the trailer after the jump and see what you think.

The original is amazing, it’s #75 on my favorite list of films of all-time. Great cinematography and pacing, several artful but action-packed super long takes, lots of subtlety in frame and performance. A great companion to Sicario.

This looks nothing like that. Screw Hollyweird.

I hope the PG-13 rating listed on IMDB is wrong. Not sure why you would want to remake an R rated movie about drug cartels and murder as PG-13.
