boxofficevenom2

After a massive $80 million opening, the general feeling was that Venom would experience a significant drop in its second week due to the mixed reviews. But once again the Spider-Man spin-off exceeded expectations, dipping just 55% to earn another $35.7 million domestically. The movie now sits at $378 million worldwide and seems to be performing similar to Logan, which ultimately earned $619 million all in. In second place, A Star is Born also beat out all newcomers, adding another $28 million. Elsewhere, First Man opened in third with $16.5 million, followed closely by Goosebumps 2 with an estimated $16.2 million. Smallfoot rounded out the top 5. The other new movie in wide release, Bad Times at the El Royale, did not fare so well, opening a distant seventh place with just $7.2 million.

The comparison to Logan is fine, but Logan being R rated and making a good amount of money versus Venom being PG-13 should be said.

  • Matthew Goddard

If Venom is smart they will do that R-rated Blu-Ray release with a limited theatre run of the R-Rated version in a few months. I would bet a majority of the PG-13 rated viewers would watch again. Probably worth the money even if they need to clean up the FX in some of the shots.

sony should kiss hardys feet for this. without him this movie would have failed miserably i think. and i hope they are not stupid enough to make the sequel also pg13 rated.

  • Dirk Gently

More people are watching Venom than First Man? The world is fucked.

Not surprising at all, Venom is one of the most popular “recent” characters Marvel has. The current comic is doing gangbusters in a story arc that has nothing to do with Spiderman. They just did a one-shot called Ve’nam wherein SHIELD uses symbiotes during the Vietnam war and the whole thing goes predictably wrong.
