Although reviews for Amazon’s Jack Ryan TV series have been decent to mixed, the show seems to have been a big success in terms of bringing the Tom Clancy character back into the spotlight. Now this week Paramount has announced plans to adapt another series of books focusing on one of Tom Clancy’s other major protagonists: John Clark. Although the name sounds just as boring as Jack Ryan, he is apparently more exciting in that he is not a paper-pushing analyst for the CIA but rather an ex-Navy Seal turned operations officer. He has appeared in several Jack Ryan books but also has his own series and we are hearing he will be played by Black Panther / Creed star Michael B. Jordan. Hit the jump for more info.
According to Variety, Michael B. Jordan is set to star in at least two new Tom Clancy adaptations for Paramount: Without Remorse and Rainbow Six, which they are hoping will spawn a new franchise. Rainbow Six is the more well-known book, especially considering that it spawned a popular video game series as well. However, Without Remorse will apparently come first, serving as an origin story for the John Clark character.
John Clark appeared in two previous Jack Ryan movies, Clear and Present Danger and The Sum of All Fears, where he was played by Willem Dafoe and Liev Schreiber respectively. Although Tom Clancy has sold a ton of books over the years, the challenge here will be appealing to a younger audience. Michael B. Jordan should help in that regard and also tying it to a familiar video game property can’t hurt. Are you interested in a John Clark movie franchise?
