Monday Morning Box Office Report: The Predator Wins with Lukewarm Opening

Shane Black’s The Predator dispatched its box office opponents without too much trouble over the weekend, although it wasn’t necessarily cause for celebration at Fox. The movie earned $24 million, which is a bit lower than expected and slightly less than Predators made back in 2010. It also has the unfortunate distinction of being the weakest start ever for a movie playing on over 4000 screens (The Mummy previously held that record with $31 million). In second place, The Nun had a steep 66% drop from its impressive debut, earning $18.2 million in its second weekend. Paul Feig’s A Simple Favor opened in third with a decent $16.1 million take followed by White Boy Rick with $8.8 million. Crazy Rich Asians rounded out the top 5. Way down in ninth place, Unbroken: Path to Redemption was a non-starter with just $2.4 million.
