Monday Morning Box Office Report: The Nun Conjures Massive $53 Million Debut


After dominating the box office for most of August with The Meg and Crazy Rich Asians, it looks like Warner Brothers has yet another hit on their hands with The Nun. The Conjuring spin-off opened with an amazing $53 million over the weekend, significantly exceeding expectations and delivering the biggest opening yet for The Conjuring series (the original made $41.8 million back in 2013). Crazy Rich Asians fell to second place with $13.6 million and now sits at $136 million domestically. Elsewhere Peppermint opened in third with a decent $13.26 million and The Meg dropped to fourth. Searching rounded out the top five. The weekend’s other new release, God Bless the Broken Road, opened way down in eleventh place with a dismal $1.56 million.
