As we near the end of the summer, the last batch of major studio films hit theatres this weekend with a well-reviewed romantic comedy facing off against an espionage-themed action-thriller and a family-oriented historical adventure film. Jon M. Chu’s Crazy Rich Asians has all the makings of a breakout hit as it is generating plenty of hype and also plays to an often ignored demographic, plus there just haven’t been a ton of rom-coms as of late so this is definitely the movie to beat. Also arriving in theatres is Peter Berg’s latest collaboration with Mark Wahlberg, the spy thriller Mile 22, and the long-delayed “a boy and his wolf” action-adventure film Alpha. Hitting select theatres, we have the Nick Hornby adaptation Juliet, Naked, the Sundance hit We the Animals, and a non-Disney live-action version of The Little Mermaid. What will you be watching this weekend?
