Alfonso Cuaron’s Roma Trailer

Despite putting out a relatively dismal crop of original films so far this year, Netflix has a few promising movies arriving later this year… one of which happens to be the latest film from director Alfonso Cuaron (Gravity, Children of Men). The movie is called Roma and it is shot entirely in black and white so it’s already gunning for some Oscars pretty much by default. Not much is currently known about the plot except that it revolves around a year in the life of a middle-class family in Mexico City in the early 1970s and it draws from many of Cuaron’s own experiences growing up. The first trailer has arrived online this week and one thing’s for sure: it looks beautiful. Roma will premiere at several film festivals this fall before hitting select theatres and arriving on Netflix towards the end of the year. Check out the first trailer after the jump and let us know what you think.

Looks lovely, even though the gray-scale imagery might show off my annoying banding on my LG OLED.

HUH you have banding on your OLED? Really? First time I’ve heard of this issue in regards to OLED. Burn-In is the primary concern but banding? Have you looked into exchanging? Maybe a bad panel? Is it bad all the time? Comes and goes?

BIg AC fan though I didn’t enjoy Gravity for a variety of reasons I do think his work is quite fantastic!

Roma looks sumptuous in it’s DP and glorious in it’s storytelling. I’m there.

Picture uniformity (banding) is an issue on most LG OLEDs from my research. It’s very faint, but vertical bands become visible when a picture is scrolling and the screen is primarily grey, and horizontal banding is visible on bright white scenes. It’s not a deal breaker and only happens on said low-contrast situations.

It’s not as bad/noticeable as the yellow banding that Frank got with his LG. #LifesShit

    Man sorry to hear!

I love the picture quality of OLED but the price for me currently is much to steep. OLED hands down is the best IMO.

I can imagine Frank’s reaction to his OLED issue! LOL

It’s a shame really to buy expensive tech and have to deal with quality issues.

Will Jay be back on the show when you review the film? I’ve got a feeling that he’s gonna 6-bang this gorgeous film

Um, okay, I guess, until the last shot which seems overtly arty farty.
