Overlord Trailer: Bad Robot’s Latest is Not a Cloverfield Sequel After All

Despite persistent rumours that the Paramount’s upcoming film Overlord might somehow be tied into the Cloverfield universe, this week the first trailer has arrived online and it still does not bear the Cloverfield name. Whether that is due to the poor reception of the direct-to-Netflix sequel The Cloverfield Paradox remains to be seen, but the J.J. Abrams-produced project is indeed a high concept mystery with science-fiction elements. Directed by Julius Avery (Son of a Gun) from a script by Billy Ray (Captain Phillips, Breach) and Mark L. Smith (The Revenant), the story revolves around a pair of American soldiers dropped behind enemy lines during WWII who uncover a terrifying Nazi experiment. Overlord hits theatres on Nov. 9th; check out the trailer after the jump and see what you think.

To this day I have no idea what the Cloverfield Universe is or what ties it all together and to be honest it seems like such a scattered mess that I’ve come to the conclusion that it isn’t really worth caring about.

That being said, me being a WWII junkie and a love of horror would be willing to see this combo come to the big screen. If this movie delivers the goods I might be willing to give JJ a positive plug for once.

Was not expecting an ACDC song to kick in during a WWII movie trailer…it kinda works! This looks like a prequel to Outpost 1, 2 & 3.

This actually looks awful. I get a real VOD trash vibe from this.
