Mary Queen of Scots Trailer Starring Saoirse Ronan and Margot Robbie

With this year’s crop of Oscar hopefuls slowly starting to take shape, Focus Features have released the first trailer for their upcoming historical drama Mary Queen of Scots. The movie takes place in the 1500s and focuses on the rivalry between two cousins, Mary Stuart (played by Saoirse Ronan) and Queen Elizabeth I (played by Margot Robbie), both of whom believe they are the rightful heir to the English crown. It’s hard not to think this movie is partially influenced by Game of Thrones (or at least banking on its popularity), but as it turns out The CW also had a recent TV series on this very subject called Reign. Mary Queen of Scots is directed by Josie Rourke (Much Ado About Nothing) and hits theatres on Dec. 7th; check out the trailer after the jump and see what you think.

Wish they would have worked on Mary’s accent. She grew up in the French court! On my Winter list!

Ummm love both actresses but Margot’s accent seems a bit flighty? Could be my imagination but it does not seem consistent.

Saoirse Ronan looks like she was born to play this role while Margot Robbie (who I rate as one of the best actors in film at the moment) kinda resembles the Suicide Squads version of the joker. This is now on my ‘very much looking forward to watching this so I hope it doesn’t end up sucking’ list.
