Timothee Chalemet in Talks for Dune Reboot

After earning an Oscar nomination for his performance in last year’s Call Me By Your Name and starring in another potential awards contender this year with Beautiful Boy, Timothée Chalemet is about to land his first lead role in a major Hollywood tentpole. That being said, it is a tentpole that arguably has a lot more artistic credibility behind it than most. We are hearing that Chalemet is circling the lead role in Legendary’s Dune reboot which is being directed by acclaimed filmmaker Denis Villeneuve. Hit the jump for more details.

According to Deadline, Timothée Chalemet is in talks to star in Dune for Legendary Entertainment. He would play Paul Atreides, the same role played by Kyle MacLachlan in David Lynch’s 1984 adaptation, a nobleman and heir of House Atreides. Their family is ordered to relocate and take control of the desert planet Arrakis, home of a valuable drug known as “the spice.”

The movie is being described as “Game of Thrones meets Star Wars” and arguably features more political intrigue and drama than action. This is why Denis Villeneuve seems to be the perfect choice to direct, having already delivered several smart studio projects and elevated genre pics like Sicario and Blade Runner 2049. Similarly, the lead role seems to require more genuine acting chops than physical capability. Do you think Timothée Chalemet is a great choice to star?
