New to Theatres This Weekend: Skyscraper, Hotel Transylvania 3: Summer Vacation, Eighth Grade

Dwayne Johnson’s box office clout will be put to the test this weekend as his latest action movie Skyscraper faces off against Marvel’s Ant-Man and the Wasp in its second weekend and the third installment in a reliable animated franchise, Hotel Transylvania 3: Summer Vacation. Skyscraper is one of the few original big budget blockbusters of the summer (although to be fair, “original” might be a stretch considering how much Die Hard seems to have been an inspiration). In select theatres, we also have Bo Burnham’s Eighth Grade, which earned a lot of praise at Sundance, and Don’t Worry He Won’t Get Far on Foot starring Joaquin Phoenix and Jonah Hill. Sorry to Bother You is also getting a significant expansion after a strong debut in limited release last weekend. What will you be watching this weekend?
