Monday Morning Box Office Report: Ant-Man and the Wasp Spreads Its Wings with $76 Million

Marvel topped the box office over the weekend once again with a decent $76 million debut for Ant-Man and the Wasp. That’s a $20 million improvement on the first Ant-Man film although it’s still on the lower end of the MCU scale. The movie’s three-day take was very frontloaded, earning 44.5% of its total on Friday, which perhaps indicates it is appealing primarily to Marvel die-hards. Meanwhile Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom fell from #1 to #3 while Incredibles 2 managed to hang on to second place with $29 million. The First Purge opened in fourth with $17 million ($31 million over five days), which is mostly in line with the previous films in the series. Sicario: Day of the Soldado rounded out the top 5. Elsewhere Whitney finished just outside the top 10 with $1.25 million and Sorry to Bother You had a huge debut in limited release earning $717,302 with a per theatre average of $44,831, setting the stage for a potential breakout next weekend.
