Monday Morning Box Office Report: Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom Rules the Earth

The Jurassic Park franchise is alive and well as Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom devoured the competition over the weekend with a very solid $150 million debut. That’s down 28% from the previous film which earned an astonishing $208 million back in 2015, but it is still above most expectations. The movie has already been playing internationally for a few weeks and is now sitting at $711 million worldwide. In second place, Incredibles 2 added another $80 million in its second weekend and failed to hold quite as strong as some thought it might, but obviously Jurassic World stole some of its thunder. Ocean’s 8 fell to third while Tag and Deadpool 2 rounded out the top 5. Elsewhere, the Mr. Rogers doc Won’t You be My Neighbor? joined RBG as one of the rare documentaries to enter the top 10 after a significant expansion this past weekend.

1. Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom — $150M
2. Incredibles 2 — $80.9M

The Mr Dress Up documentary would not get in the top 10. For UK based people in the 1970s/80s, Mr Benn was the only Mister in town!

Are non-Canadians familiar with Mr. Dress Up? Thought that only aired on the CBC.

Please tell me that someone noticed the crazy The Shining reference at the end of Jurassic World 2. The three driving along the cliff side. Is that considered a spoiler?
