Monday Morning Box Office Report: Ocean’s 8 Pulls Off the Biggest Ocean’s Heist

Warner Brothers orchestrated a successful con over the weekend as their female reboot of the Ocean’s franchise easily topped the box office with $41.5 million, the biggest debut ever for an Ocean’s movie. Granted, the other installments aren’t that far behind (and probably made more if you take inflation into account) but Ocean’s 8 also cost a fair bit less to make than the previous trilogy so I’m sure they’re pretty happy with the results. Solo: A Star Wars Story fell to second place with $15.2 million followed by Deadpool 2 with $13.7 million. Opening in fourth place, Hereditary exceeded expectations with $13 million, making it A24’s most successful start to date (that D+ CinemaScore might hurt its future prospects, however). The Avengers: Infinity War rounded out the top 5. Elsewhere, the weekend’s other new release, Hotel Artemis, opened in eighth with a disappointing $3.2 million.
