Monday Morning Box Office Report: Ocean’s 8 Pulls Off the Biggest Ocean’s Heist

Warner Brothers orchestrated a successful con over the weekend as their female reboot of the Ocean’s franchise easily topped the box office with $41.5 million, the biggest debut ever for an Ocean’s movie. Granted, the other installments aren’t that far behind (and probably made more if you take inflation into account) but Ocean’s 8 also cost a fair bit less to make than the previous trilogy so I’m sure they’re pretty happy with the results. Solo: A Star Wars Story fell to second place with $15.2 million followed by Deadpool 2 with $13.7 million. Opening in fourth place, Hereditary exceeded expectations with $13 million, making it A24’s most successful start to date (that D+ CinemaScore might hurt its future prospects, however). The Avengers: Infinity War rounded out the top 5. Elsewhere, the weekend’s other new release, Hotel Artemis, opened in eighth with a disappointing $3.2 million.

1. Ocean’s Eight — $41.5M
2. Solo: A Star Wars Story — $15.2M
3. Deadpool 2 — $13.7M
4. Hereditary — $13M
5. The Avengers: Infinity War — $6.8M
6. Adrift — $5.1M
7. Book Club — $4.2M
8. Hotel Artemis — $3.2M
9. Upgrade — $2.2M
10. Life of the Party — $2.1M

duh. I just realized why they started with Ocean’s 8. I guess they plan on making this a trilogy?
