The Girl in the Spider’s Web Trailer Starring Claire Foy

It’s turning out to be a pretty big week for trailers and now Sony has released the first trailer for their upcoming Millennium series reboot, The Girl in the Spider’s Web. Based on the fourth book in the series (the first not written by Stieg Larsson), the movie stars Claire Foy (The Crown) taking over the role of hacker / vigilante Lisbeth Salander from Rooney Mara with Sverrir Gudnason playing journalist Mikael Blomkvist. The plot finds the duo getting caught up in a “web of spies, cybercriminals and corrupt government officials” although there are also some ties to Salander’s past. Directed by Fede Alvarez (Don’t Breathe, Evil Dead) and based on a script by Steven Knight (Eastern Promises, Locke), the movie co-stars Lakeith Stanfield, Sylvia Hoeks, Stephen Merchant, Vicky Krieps and Claes Bang. The Girl in the Spider’s Web hits theatres on Nov. 9th; check out the first trailer after the jump and let us know what you think.

Around the Web:

Feels completely wrong. Taking a procedural and turning it into a vigilante superhero movie, trying to exploit the female empowerment wave. I don’t buy Foy in this for a second, and tonally it seems like a big miscalculation.

    agreed on all accounts.
