Suspiria Teaser Trailer

David Gordon Green tried for years to get a remake of Dario Argento’s Suspiria off the ground, but now that he is off directing a Halloween reboot, Call Me By Your Name director Luca Guadagnino was able to step in and get it made instead. Billed as more of a “reimagining” than a remake, the movie stars Dakota Johnson as Susie Bannion, an American ballet student who joins a dance academy in Berlin only to find that it harbours a dark and sinister history. Tilda Swinton plays the group’s creative director Madame Blanc while ChloĆ« Grace Moretz, Mia Goth and Jessica Harper also co-star. The new Suspiria features a score by Thom Yorke and it will get an awards-friendly theatrical release from Amazon on Nov. 2nd. Check out the first trailer after the jump and see what you think.

I’m in. After Call Me By Your Name I’d psyched to see his aesthetic brought to a horror movie. And this definitely looks more like a “reimagining” than a remake which I’m happy with.

I get no giallo vibes at all from the trailer. Not one artistic death shot. No creative camerawork. No Goblin-esqe score. Looks more like a lesbian stalker film. Having said that, I’d still give it a chance.
