*To paraphrase Jay – Harrison Ford is Han Solo but you can’t have Harrison Ford as Han Solo cause he’s too old. maybe not-

  • gibson8

Serafinowicz is basically the goto guy for voicing CG baddies particularly those with bassy baritone characteristics:

  • Jr

    Hans “Gruber” Olo

  • Primal

Solo’s cinematography was terrible. They are saying that it was projection problem, but I think it was actually badly lit and/or the color correction was badly done. It’s weird that the film became easier to watch during the mad-max-ish scenes with its use of sunlight.

  • Reed Farrington

Hmm… you mean a projection problem at the theatre you saw it in? Anyone else feel like it was bad cinematography? I thought it looked nice.

  • Primal

Yeah, in the theatre I was in and it was at one of their best screens too. I’d have to see it again at another theatre to definitively know. But I saw this article on the complaints.

  • schizopolis

Just saw Solo. Really enjoyed it, even though it has major problems. One thing I realized after watching is that Han Solo is best as a side-character like in the other 4 Star Wars films. In Solo, they basically made him into an outdated 80’s Tom Cruise…the young, dumb cocky flyboy. So I thought Ehrenreich embodied that well. Ironically, the side characters in Solo were the most interesting, specifically Beckett and Lando. Even more ironic is that Lando, essentially plays the part of Han in A New Hope. No wonder why dumbass fans want a Lando movie now. Starting to see the vicious circle.

Best moments: the shower scene, every time Chewy’s fur being blown by the wind and Lando falling for a sassy SJW/PAWG!!

  • Deven Science

It’s no knowledge bias on your part. I understood quite clearly how the film managed to make it about distance.

  • Tommy

Got my HTBATM disc in today.
Presenting Tobey Maguire in his Pussy Posse kimono . Thanks Jay :)

  • Gerry

Hopefully you’ll include the other 2 stories as well, as I find you very entertaining.

Your included dilemma story was very Larry David.

  • disqus_R9COQbeddV

Roseanne bringing back her show to try and humanize Trump supporters and then getting fired for making a racist joke related to nutbag conspiracy theories while high on pills may just be the funniest thing she’s ever done.

  • Samb

(Sounds like there was more Other Stuff that could have been talked about…too bad a couple of them felt they had to cut it short)

  • Reed Farrington

Interesting. I saw it in 3D, which darkened the film even more. I’m not sure if I was paying attention to details in the darkness, but I liked the “consistency” in the cinematography.

On a related note, I just saw the trailer for Zhang Yimou’s “Shadow” and the details in the darkness were extraordinary on my iPad. :-)

  • Reed Farrington

So I guess I was wrong on the podcast about the film not addressing the “parsec” issue.

  • Reed Farrington

Coincidentally, I was recently watching the extra features on Seinfeld’s first season.

Can someone recommend few similar films like Solo: a SW Story from this list?

  • gibson8

    ‘canon’. Thank me later…

  • gibson8

White men (and women) can be proud too. Many have also overcome oppression and other obstacles, but their oppression was unrelated to their whiteness, and therefore, their pride cannot be related to whiteness either. I appreciate that it doesn’t help being marooned on the edge of the world with the only exposure to other cultures being the abused and exploited indigenous population.

  • RJ

Does anyone know the origin of Jay’s “shake it up” voice? I know he started doing it a few episodes back, but I don’t remember if it was ever discussed. I think it’s hilarious, and am just curious.

  • ScrabbleDavid

I believe that’s Tom Leykis, a Floridian shock jock quote.

  • ScrabbleDavid

Can we get Reed to do a list of his ‘perfect’ movies? I’d like to see what he equates Solo’s perfection to.

  • Reed Farrington

I lied. There has never been a perfect movie. Planet of the Apes (1968) comes close. If Taylor had brought along a dog, it would have been a perfect movie.

  • ProphetZarquon

Agreed. The black holes of the Maw make the whole area a death trap, & the whole distance thing has been covered quite thoroughly decades before this movie ever came out.

Might be worth noting that both the Falcon, & the smuggler ship which first plotted that course seemed to have high-load drive systems. The Falcon is made to grab cargo containers in its big front clamp & push them. In my mind’s eye, I wonder if some ratio of thrust at a given speed allows the Falcon to climb out deeper from gravity wells than some other very fast ships? Like having more torque versus horsepower when climbing a hill.

Having the inside lane is always shorter, which is why it’s usually faster.
