Danny Boyle Officially Confirmed for Bond 25, Production Starts in December

It’s been a few months since we heard that Danny Boyle was in the running to direct the next James Bond film, but that it was hinging on a script being written by Boyle collaborator John Hodge. Just as it was starting to feel like maybe it wouldn’t happen after all, this past Friday MGM and EON Productions issued a press release confirming that Danny Boyle is officially on board and that production is set to start later this year. Daniel Craig will reprise his role as 007 once again. Producers Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli had this to say:

“We are delighted to announce that the exceptionally talented Danny Boyle will be directing Daniel Craig in his fifth outing as James Bond in the 25th instalment of the franchise. We will begin shooting Bond 25 at Pinewood Studios in December with our partners at MGM and thrilled that Universal Pictures will be our international distributor.”

Megan Ellison’s Annapurna Pictures is also partnering with MGM for the domestic release. No word yet on what Boyle and Hodge’s story idea might be but it seems to have taken priority over the initial Bond 25 script written by longtime franchise writers Neal Purvis and Robert Wade. Danny Boyle is currently shooting a Beatles-themed musical comedy starring Lily James, Ana de Armas, Kate McKinnon and Ed Sheeran. Are you excited to see Danny Boyle take on Bond?

Very excited for this production. Also, very curious as to how much money they threw at DC.

Glad to see they went with Boyle, but I am more excited by the fact that this is not written by Purvis and Wade. I believe they’ve done all of them since World Is Not Enough so having a fresh voice in there can only be a good thing.
