City of Lies Trailer: Johnny Depp and Forest Whitaker Investigate the Deaths of Tupac and Biggie

Tupac Shakur and Notorious BIG have already received relatively successful biopics with All Eyez on Me and Notorious, but this year Good Films, Miramax and Open Road Films are diving back into their unsolved murders with a movie called City of Lies. Based on the book LAbyrinth by Randall Sullivan, it details the investigation carried out by former LAPD detective Russell Poole who supposedly found evidence that Suge Knight had orchestrated the murders and teamed up with the LAPD to cover it up. Johnny Depp plays Russell Poole in the film who works with a journalist named Jack Jackson (played by Forest Whitaker) to uncover the truth. It’s weird, yeah I know. City of Lies is directed by Brad Furman (The Lincoln Lawyer, The Infiltrator) and it hits theatres on Sept. 7th; check out the trailer after the jump and let us know what you think.

Doesn’t Suge Knight claim he was the target of the shooting that night? Either way he’s in jail for the car killing years ago and his trial is coming up.

So many theories and conspiracy theories surrounding the death of these rappers that it gets confusing with all the players involved. But this movie looks interesting. Enough for watch in the movie theater? No, but Netflix maybe.
