New to Theatres This Weekend: Deadpool 2, Show Dogs, First Reformed

The summer movie season kicked off a few weeks ago with The Avengers: Infinity War delivering the biggest opening weekend of all time, but now this week Deadpool 2 will attempt to top its predecessor’s record for biggest R-rated debut. It’s hard to say just how high Deadpool 2‘s numbers might go but some of the more optimistic projections have it opening near $150 million. There are two other movies in wide release this weekend offering up very precise counterprogramming to the comic book movies with the talking canine comedy Show Dogs giving families an alternative and Book Club starring Jane Fonda, Mary Steenburgen, Diane Keaton and Candice Bergen clearly gunning for an older female audience. In select theatres, we also have Paul Schrader’s latest film First Reformed starring Ethan Hawke, British romantic drama On Chesil Beach starring Saoirse Ronan, and the Wim Wenders documentary Pope Francis – A Man of His Word. What will you be watching this weekend?

Just saw Deadpool 2 and they double down on the its brand of humor, but I think the execution was much better than the first one and I definitely had a good time with it. Post credit sequence was creative :)
