Here’s the first trailer for Spike Lee’s next film BlacKkKlansman, which seems like it has the potential to be his most accessible film in years. The movie is based on the true story of Ron Stallworth, the first African-American detective in the Colorado Springs Police Department who attempted to infiltrate and expose the KKK in the early ’70s. Jordan Peele is a producer on the film (who ever thought Spike Lee would need someone else’s name to help sell his movies?) and John David Washington (Ballers) stars with Adam Driver playing Stallworth’s white partner Flip Zimmerman. Topher Grace also co-stars as former Klan leader David Duke, which gives you an indication that there is a slight comedic tone to the whole thing as well. BlacKkKlansman hits select theatres on Aug. 10th; check out the trailer after the jump and see what you think.
