We’ve already seen a few movies that have taken place almost entirely on a computer screen including Nacho Vigalondo’s Open Windows and the horror movie Unfriended, but Aneesh Chaganty’s Searching is the one that just might take this found footage subgenre to the mainstream. The movie stars John Cho as a recently widowed father who starts to delve into his teenage daughter’s computer and social networking apps in search of clues after she disappears. Debra Messing (Will & Grace) also plays a detective assigned to help with the investigation. The movie is produced by Timur Bekmambetov, who also produced Unfriended and its upcoming sequel, and it premiered at Sundance earlier this year where it received overwhelmingly positive reviews. Searching hits theatres on Aug. 3rd; check out the official trailer after the jump and let us know what you think.
