New to Theatres This Weekend: Life of the Party, Breaking In, Revenge

The Avengers: Infinity War continues to loom large over this weekend’s new releases as the choices are once again looking pretty slim for May. The only two new movies in wide releases this weekend are the Melissa McCarthy comedy Life of the Party and the home invasion thriller Breaking In starring Gabrielle Union. While neither should pose any sort of threat to Infinity War, Life of the Party will be hoping for an extra boost from Mother’s Day audiences. In select theatres, Neon is releasing the feminist revenge thriller Revenge (which is also out on VOD) while Sony Pictures Classics has the Anton Chekhov adaptation The Seagull starring Elisabeth Moss, Saoirse Ronan and Annette Bening. There are quite a few other smaller releases out this weekend but nothing really of note. What will you be watching this weekend?

If THE RIDER is playing near you guys, that could be a great movie to review. It seems like REVENGE and DOWNRANGE would make a good double bill, although the reviews for the latter are all over the place.

LU OVER THE WALL is from Masaaki Yuasa, who’s one of the most creative and unique animation directors out there. His MIND GAME is a real mindfuck.

And CHAMPION really sounds like it has the potential to be a movie Jay loves. The big dude from TRAIN TO BUSAN plays an arm wrestler tying to make a big comeback.
