With all of the secrecy surrounding The Avengers: Infinity War, we have been mostly in the dark about Marvel’s Phase 4 plan aside from the fact that it will probably include a Spider-Man: Homecoming sequel. Obviously we can probably expect sequels for a few other solo characters as well, but when it comes to new characters and some fresh creative talent we have very little to go on right now. This week, however, there is an interesting rumour floating around indicating that one very unique director might be taking on an unknown film the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Hit the jump to find out what we know.
During a recent appearance on The Adam Buxton Podcast, actor/comedian Bob Mortimer (House of Fools) let it slip that Ben Wheatley might be directing an upcoming Marvel movie. He had been working with Wheatley on a movie about Michael Jackson but it was interrupted when “Ben got offered one of the big Marvel films.” It is unclear what movie that might be (or if it is even a Marvel Studios film specifically), but it is an intriguing proposition nonetheless.
Although it might not seem like Wheatley would have any interest in a mainstream comic book movie, he did state in a previous interview with Little White Lies that he would love to do a Marvel Zombies movie, which definitely seems more in line with his sensibilities. Of course, no one knows if a Marvel Zombies movie is actually in development or if it would even fit into the MCU right now. That being said, there are a lot of other possibilities and I’m sure the man who brought us Kill List, Sightseers and A Field in England could do something pretty cool with studio resources and a massive budget. Would you like to see Ben Wheatley take on a Marvel movie?
