Robin Hood Trailer Starring Taron Egerton

Less than a decade after Ridley Scott and Russell Crowe teamed up for a new live-action Robin Hood movie, Lionsgate is offering a reboot of their own, albeit a slightly grittier, more modern take. Directed by Otto Bathurst (Peaky Blinders), this movie is set in the usual post-Crusades period with Robin Hood assembling a band of outlaws to lead a revolt against a corrupt English crown but with some flashy cinematography and more “attitude”, if you will. Taron Egerton (Kingsman: The Secret Service) stars along with Jamie Foxx, Jamie Dornan, Eve Hewson and Ben Mendelsohn (who plays the Sheriff of Nottingham… obviously). It’s hard not to be reminded of Guy Ritchie’s King Arthur: Legend of the Sword even though Ritchie had nothing to do with it (and maybe a little bit of Arrow too). Robin Hood hits theatres on Nov. 21st; check out the first trailer after the jump and see what you think.

I 100% thought this was connected to King Arthur. I may have been one of the few to enjoy Ritchie’s Arthur so was ready for the next one. Huh, so this is just another stand alone Robin Hood movie. I guess I am still interested. At least this one looks to actually feature Robin Hood for a good chunk of the film, unlike the Scott one.

Like Egerton but I don’t know this could either be a real stinker or a fun action flick and right now leaning toward the former.

  • Flo Lieb

I’m looking forward to the day when Ben Mendelsohn is finally done playing literally every villain in everything that’s coming out.

  • Kasper

The trailer is certainly stinky, but who knows, it might surprise.

  • Dirk Gently

Robin Hood has been done to death. I think it’s time Dick Turpin got his big screen treatment.

  • bendoofus

I genuinely had the same thought. And I haven’t even seen Arthur

  • bendoofus

Ugh. Also, the agencies making these trailers need to get the memo-no more Inception BOOOOONGs. Enough.

  • Lior

How do executives make these decisions?

“Hey, we haven’t had a Robin Hood movie in a while…”
“Yeah, time goes by so fast it feels like 30 years ago. Let’s do one! And make it look like a Michael Bay movie!”
    “Here, here!”

    Gosh, what happened to subtlety?

And they couldn’t even bother giving it a more interesting title. At least Prince of Thieves, who must look like a Terrence Malick film in comparison, gave it a shot (no pun intended).

Someone hasn’t seen Carry On Dick

  • newtaurus

Well, if it sucks, at least we know they’ll try again in six or seven years…

  • Dirk Gently

It has been a very long time since i saw any Carry On film, but growing up in the UK i think i’ve seen most of them, if not that one.

Do you happen to remember the Dick Turpin TV series with Richard O’Sullivan? I loved it as a kid. The actual road that Turpin used to rob people on runs through my town. His local watering hole is not far from here and takes it’s name from him! (Tumbledown Dick)

  • Beat_C

oh wow, this looks absolutely atrocious, like a mix between “arrow”, “assassin’s creed” and “king arthur”. hard pass.

  • Beat_C

IKR. he’s too talented to be so brutally typecast all the time.

  • j-diggle

I don’t I’m afraid, though looking it up now, it does predate me by about 11 years. Would love a new take on Turpin though.
