Star Trek 4 Gets a Director, Will Not Involve Quentin Tarantino

It appears that reports of a Quentin Tarantino Star Trek movie may have been slightly exaggerated. We heard late last year that Tarantino had pitched the idea of an R-rated Star Trek sequel to J.J. Abrams and that The Revenant screenwriter Mark L. Smith had been hired to write the screenplay with Tarantino possibly considering taking the director’s chair himself. However, this week Paramount has announced that they are moving forward with a different plan for a fourth film in the series. The interesting twist is that they have reportedly hired the franchise’s first female director to helm it. Hit the jump to find out what we know.
According to Variety, S.J. Clarkson will direct Star Trek 4 for Paramount based on a script by J.D. Payne and Patrick McKay (Star Trek Beyond). Clarkson is a veteran TV director who has directed episodes of such shows as Life on Mars, Heroes, Dexter and Marvel’s The Defenders over the years. This will be her feature film debut.
The story will involve a previously announced time travel storyline that sees Kirk crossing paths with his father (played by Chris Hemsworth). As for the Tarantino project, sources say that it has not been scrapped and remains in development even though it won’t be the next installment. I guess that is good news, although it may be hard for fans to get excited about something else now that Tarantino’s involvement has been hinted at. Are you still looking forward to Star Trek 4?
