We’ve seen many adaptations of the Mary Shelley classic Frankenstein over the years, including some wackier recent takes on the story like I, Frankenstein, Victor Frankenstein and The Frankenstein Chronicles. Now this summer we are getting a movie about the life of Mary Shelley and the true story behind the creation of Frankenstein’s monster. Elle Fanning plays Shelley (nee Mary Wollstonecraft Godwin), who falls in love with poet Percy Shelley (Douglas Booth) as a teenager. After experiencing a personal tragedy, she channels that pain into a dark and horrific tale that would make her a world famous writer and, eventually, a feminist icon. Mary Shelley is directed by Haifaa Al-Mansour (Wadjda) and co-stars Maisie Williams, Joanne Froggatt and Stephen Dillane. The movie hits select theatres on May 25th and VOD on June 1st; check out the trailer after the jump and see what you think.
