  • LongSlog

Oh thank Christ (only 1 minute in).

  • Bill

I’m so relieved. The prospect of Reed replacing Jay was fucking me up at an irrationally high level.

  • Brian.M

Load her up…I’ve been thinking about this episode prior to it been released more than most FJ eps.

  • Tommy

    Do chronological for Kanley Stubrick.
Pt1: Fear and Desire, Killer’s Kiss, The Killing, Paths of Glory, Spartacus, Lolita and Strangelove
Pt2: 2001, Clockwork, Lyndon, Shining, Jacket, Eyes and bonus AI :)

  • Tommy

Yo, Jay. You gotta pronounce the ‘e’ at the end of Mifune.

  • Tommy

    Or else!

  • Garry

Film Junks fans are some bright young men

  • bendoofus

So it was an April fool after all?

  • Peter Harrison

You guys are nuts. I love you, but you’re nuts. So much anxiety and excitement for a what? A what? Love you a bunch. A big red bunch x

  • Bandit Manatee

Reed is just an absolute troll :)

Btw here is Ernest cline’s ecto88 that jay was talking about

  • Garry

Amazing that anyone with WiFi still falls for April Fools jokes

  • ThisGuy01

I don’t think any conversations about “Spielberg is done” can be made while one member of the crew still stands by Tim Burton.

  • B MP Rooney

Your arrogance might have had credibility had you spoke up earlier.

  • Jr

“Who’s more foolish, the fool or the fool who follows him?” – Jay Cheel

  • Taylor Gaston Wyatt

“We aren’t worthy! We aren’t worthy!”- Waynes World

  • bobsponge42

Will we see a sequel to Ready Player One? (I pray not)

  • Reed Farrington

This is a trick question because fools are not necessarily foolish.

  • Reed Farrington

Anyone who does not hold to popular opinion is not necessarily a troll. I often say what I don’t believe in order not to be a troll.

  • Reed Farrington

    You’re welcome.

  • Reed Farrington

I hope Jay shat all over you.

  • Bill

Why are you creeping around the comments, Reed, you weren’t in this ep. Begone, scat enthusiast!

  • Oso Jugo

Don’t want to say I told you so but…

  • pcch7

Man I was hoping to hear Jay barfing at the thumbs up by the Iron Giant lol

  • Peter Harrison

I admit, I got this one badly wrong. Reminds me of the time I got excommunicated from the British Dental Association. My ability to parse complex information and make sound judgements is failing. Like that episode where Reed said his friend urinated in a bin: I believed he was talking about a friend! I drank his milkshake! Maybe it wasn’t an April Fools Day joke. Maybe it was proof of an alternate reality. Just a crazy idea that is probably correct.

  • Lori Cerny

Isn’t “British Dental Association” an oxymoron?

  • ProjectGenesis

Both the book and the movie don’t hammer home the incredible financial incentive to “know” all these aspects of 80s geek culture. They are memorizing lines from Back to the Future not because of nostalgia, but because it can lift them out of poverty. I wish this was emphasized more.

  • Colin

Just to clear up some misinformation from Jay… the girl’s avatar in RPO didn’t have the birthmark on its face until the last battle, at which point I suppose we’re supposed to understand that Wade accepting her in the real world has allowed her the strength to accept who she is in the virtual world.

    But whatever.

  • devolutionary

In the recent past it seemed that Americans pushed the joke, but historically it’s been the Brits themselves who perpetuated the myth. Several dentist journals cite that both countries are probably even nowadays.

BBC: The Myth of bad British Teeth

  • I would love to hear you guys go down the rabbit hole of premiums revolving around comedy actors, especially their early work. Tom Hanks, Bill Murray, Steve Martin, etc. Lots of their work isn’t going to get discussed in premiums because it wasn’t attached to a big name director or franchise.

Side note, I think the ‘bigger movie’ you were missing for Eddie Murphy… Coming to America.

  • Colin

Agree that more actor premiums would be interesting.

  • “Check under the scarf for seepage” K.O.

  • bobsponge42

And yet no one seemed too bothered by the realities of their poverty, even through to the end of the film. No real stakes.

  • bobsponge42

The guys review two anticipated movies (RP1 in particular) on this episode and receive well under 50 comments. The previous episode has Reed taking over as host, Jay missing, discussions about opioids and other hot topics in between content junk talk, and the result is? Almost 250 comments. Feedback received.

  • B MP Rooney

    “My name is Jay.”

  • B MP Rooney

Some of the comments last week were, “couldn’t listen to the whole thing.”

  • generalgk

Had to stop listening when they started talking about cultural appropriation and racism. Too cringy, couldn’t take it.

  • LordAwesome

For those who missed it, here’s a behind the scenes picture of The Junkers reviewing READY PLAYER ONE:

  • Samb

Couldn’t take the subject matter or their treatment of it? I found the discussion enlightening and refreshingly non-defensive.

  • Justin Kinzer

You weren’t in the episode either William. Reed is a national treasure.

  • Bill

It was more of a poke at how he only comments on (or even listens to) episodes that he appears on. As for having “national treasure”status, that’s a depressing standard for Canada.

  • Justin Kinzer

He’s an international treasure. His value transcends borders (even if they have walls).

  • Bill

    Nice try, Reed. /s

  • Larry Morgan

also Reed replied to tons of comments, which adds to the total, no? And most of the comments were out of concern etc. I’m not sure the amount of comments really signifies the listen-count etc.

  • Sean

    Get off our lawn.

Let me guess, you liked it because it was shot on film even though all of the CG looks like garbage!

  • Matt Thephotoman

Thanks guys for your review of Ready Player One, Having been to see it today i had very low expectations going in- turns out i really enjoyed it and i dare say more so due to you setting such low expectations- if you could please continue with your rage against the COPO vibe that would be great as i’m hoping to see A Quiet Place next week which is also getting great reviews so if you could shit all over that too in next weeks podcast that would be much appreciated. Great show as always and I dare say the only movie podcast to repeatedly state “Spielberg is a hack” classic, gets me every time. Stay angry good buddies xx

  • pcch7

I’ve been thinking that too but I would do it further down the line when most franchises/directors have been covered. Still got Rambo, Sergio Leone, Cameron and some other worthy ones left. And I’d love a guilty pleasures premium, or so bad it’s good premium with stuff like Johnny Mnemonic

  • Reed Farrington

As a jobless, single guy in his 50’s, I’m not about to brag about my self-worth.

  • Reed Farrington

Just checking if anyone missed me.

  • Tim

if you loved the movie, don’t jump to judgement to those who did not. Most of us want to love everything we see, but tastes and criteria change. That’s why they are going to change up the format.

  • Deven Science

    I noticed that.
