With Kevin Smith still recovering from the heart attack he suffered back in February, many fans have been curious how this might affect plans for his next movie, the upcoming Jay and Silent Bob Reboot. As far as we know, the film is still in development but now in addition to that he seems to be adding a second Jay and Silent Bob project to his plate as well. Apparently the two hetero lifemates are about to go… under the visor? We are hearing that Smith is developing an original VR series that is just one of several projects in development for STX Entertainment’s VR division STXsurreal. The show is called simply Jay and Silent Bob VR and it is described as follows:
“Original short-form, live-action comedy series from Kevin Smith (Clerks). Smith will write, direct and produce the series, which stars his longtime collaborator Jason Mewes (Mallrats) as they revisit fan-favorite characters Jay and Silent Bob. Shot entirely from the perspective of Bob, viewers will embody the silent fanboy himself while alpha-slacker Jay leads the way through a string of idiotic adventures.”
Other upcoming projects include a live-action series from Robert Rodriguez that stars Michelle Rodriguez, a comedy series from Ed Helms, an action-comedy series starring Dave Bautista, a Pete Berg spin-off from his upocming film Mile 22, and a sci-fi thriller from John Wick writer Derek Kolstad. The Surreal app / channel is expected to launch in mid-2018. Are you looking forward to any of these shows? More importantly, do you think VR is about to go mainstream?
