Say what you will about him, but Shia LaBeouf certainly has had an interesting career, especially in recent years with roles in Fury and American Honey. Now comes news of a project called Honey Boy, which sounds like it could be his most personal film yet. Honey Boy will be a biopic of LaBeouf’s life, which he wrote under the pseudonym Otis Lort, and details the contentious relationship between LaBeouf and his father. LaBeouf will actually be playing the role of his own father in the film and Lucas Hedges will be playing LaBeouf during his years on the Disney show Even Stevens.
Although it strikes me as odd that someone as young as LaBeouf will have a biopic, the film does sound somewhat interesting. Lucas Hedges has been quickly rising in status with films like Manchester By the Sea, Lady Bird, and Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri, so I look forward to see his interpretation of LaBeouf while also acting alongside him. (Although it’s also odd that the two actors will play father and son while being about 10 years apart in age.) Honey Boy will be directed by documentarian Alma Har’el, whose credits include Bombay Beach and LoveTrue. Do you think a Shia LaBeouf biopic has some potential?
