One of the most talked about movies at this year’s Sundance Film Festival was Sorry to Bother You, the directorial debut of rapper / activist Boots Riley. The movie stars Lakeith Stanfield (Get Out, Death Note) as a telemarketer who “discovers a magical key to professional success, propelling him into a macabre universe.” I am not entirely sure what that means but the movie looks to be quite funny and also strange and surreal at times, sort of like a more angry, socially conscious Spike Jonze movie that has some big issues on its mind. Annapurna Pictures acquired the film and will release it this summer, giving us a nice little alternative to all the usual action tentpoles. Sorry to Bother You co-stars Tessa Thompson, Armie Hammer, Danny Glover, Terry Crews, Steven Yeun and Omari Hardwick and it hits select theatres on July 6th. Check out the trailer after the jump and let us know what you think.
