Dr. Seuss’ The Grinch Trailer

We already have the original 1966 animated classic and a 2000 live-action version starring Jim Carrey, but like it or not we’re about to get a third adaptation of Dr. Seuss’ How the Grinch Stole Christmas. This one is a fully CG-animated take courtesy of the folks at Illumination Entertainment and it features Benedict Cumberbatch as the voice of The Grinch. It isn’t entirely clear from the first trailer what will set this one apart from its predecessors, but it seems safe to assume that it will make a lot of money regardless. Directed by Yarrow Cheney (The Secret Life of Pets) and Scott Mosier (long-time producer for Kevin Smith), The Grinch hits theaters on Nov. 9th. Check out the trailer after the jump and see what you think.

Pop culture references – check. Dumbing down the characters – check. Miscast actor – check. Forcing “whimsy” on the audience – check. Bland CGI – check.

    I am checked out.

This looks cringeworthy awful. Did we not learn from the Jim Carrey one that this 25 min. story should need be stretched out into a feature length?

I can already see that alarm clock bit going on for another 10 min…

It’s got everything Illumination does wrong. Utterly toothless.
