The French Connection is the quintessential ending with a bang.

  • Lior

Literally every comedy from the late 50’s to late 60’s looked like gangbusters, especially the Cinemascope ones. I blame the fact comedies look so sloppy in the modern era on the habit of improvisation. Once you improvise the dialogue, you tend to improvise the visuals as well. There is almost not a single contemporary American comedy auteur who respects the script the same way as people like Woody Allen and Billy Wilder and Mel Brooks did. Almost everyone in American comedy especially are very reliant on improv. The only one that has serious visual flair is Wes Anderson, if you can consider his films pure comedies.

  • Lior

Guys, when someone asks you to say which films end with a bang, we don’t want you Googling it, we want you to answer from your wealth of incredible film knowledge! :-) You watch about 300 films a week…

Here is my nomination for worst wig (and moustache) ever in a movie (I did not google “worst wig in movie” -:)))))).

  • pcch7

Yes that one is terrible. I have that one on vhs somewhere lol

  • Good one indeed

  • I’d say “Enemy” ends with a pretty big bang. Not a literal one. But a bang nonetheless. I remember my initial response after the last frame was saying “WHAT THE FUCK” out loud. (And I’m not even a native English speaker. I mean… Come on. What a bang!)

Jays unleashing on today’s comedian scene was beautiful and made me nearly drop many a tear. I’m sick of it. All these douchebags jerking eachother off. That’s why nerdest is no longer in my rotation. Chris Hardwick is the worst, for lack of a better put down. I just wonder how the KOC Feels about the this situation. FRANK! STIR THE POT!

  • Indianamcclain

That’s a good one. Does Sorcerer count?

  • Indianamcclain

Yeah considering that Cameron is one of the few directors Frank hasn’t turned against.

  • Indianamcclain

Couldn’t tell you, haven’t seen it since the theatre.

  • Sean

Sometimes you gotta cheat a little to get the juices flowing. :)

  • Sean

Mainly waiting on baby blus for The Abyss and True Lies I think.

  • pcch7

Understandable. Shocking that they haven’t arrived on bluray yet tbh

  • Matt Thephotoman
  • Tommy

Just remembered. Wetlands has a scene with about five guys ejaculating onto a pizza in slow motion.

  • Larry Morgan

I remember someone on Grantland called this a wig from the “Greg Kinnear collection”

  • bendoofus

Videodrome has a good ‘ending with a bang’.

  • gibson8

Paul F Tomkins on Earrwolf Spontaneanation takes the ‘fucking with sponsors copy’ to new heights. Not sure if Bill Burr can match his voice work…

I’ve come back around on Chris Hardwick. I don’t necessarily think he’s real funny but he SEEMS to genuinely care about his audience. I’ve listened to other podcasts where comedians refer to non-comedians as “civilians”. And they have this obvious disdain for their audience while desperately trying to coin another catch phrase to slap onto an overpriced t-shirt or coffee mug.

  • devolutionary

I’ve soured on him since Nerdist became so embedded with online nerd culture but you have to give the man credit for completely reinventing himself after being an MTV VJ washout in the 90’s.
