The Flash Movie Gets Vacation Directors

Although we keep hearing about a possible shake-up within the DC Extended Universe, for the moment Warner Brothers is continuing to move forward with current plans for their Aquaman movie followed by Wonder Woman 2 and Shazam!. What seems a bit surprising, however, is the fact that they are not immediately doubling down on one of the few bright spots from Justice League: Ezra Miller as The Flash. Although plans for a Flash solo movie have been in motion for years now, they haven’t been able to keep a director on board. Rick Famuyiwa (Dope) left the project in 2016 and then Seth Grahame-Smith became attached before leaving last year. Now this week they have settled on a new directing team, but will they be able to see it through? Hit the jump for more info.
According to THR, John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein are currently in talks to direct Flashpoint for Warner Brothers. The movie seems to have morphed from being just a Flash solo movie (or a possible team-up with Cyborg) to being a bigger movie based on the Flashpoint storyline that may involve other superheroes as well. It could also be a reboot of sorts for the DC Universe considering that it involves an alternate timeline that only Barry Allen is aware of.
Daley and Goldstein most recently penned the script for Spider-Man: Homecoming and they were (or may still be) part of the writers room for Paramount’s so-called Hasbro Cinematic Universe (G.I. Joe, Micronauts, M.A.S.K., etc.). As directors, however, their only credits to date are the poorly received Vacation reboot and the upcoming comedy Game Night. At the very least, they should be able to maintain the comedic tone of The Flash but they are a step down from previously rumoured candidates like Sam Raimi and Robert Zemeckis. Are you looking forward to a Flashpoint movie?
