With Marvel seemingly unwilling to give fans a Black Widow solo movie, someone else has gone ahead and beat them to the punch. The upcoming spy thriller Red Sparrow finds Jennifer Lawrence playing a young Russian ballerina recruited into a top secret intelligence program (not unlike Natasha Romanoff), although in this case it is based on a book written by retired CIA agent Jason Matthews. With a supporting cast that includes Joel Edgerton, Matthias Schoenaerts, Charlotte Rampling, Mary-Louise Parker, Ciaran Hinds and Jeremy Irons, this definitely has potential even if director Francis Lawrence (The Hunger Games: Catching Fire / Mockingjay, I Am Legend) is a bit of a jobber.
