Mary Magdalene Trailer Starring Rooney Mara and Joaquin Phoenix

Every few years we seem to get a new portrayal of Jesus on the big screen with the last being Kevin Reynolds’ Risen starring Joseph Fiennes. Next up we have a new version that tells the story from the perspective of Mary Magdalene with Rooney Mara starring as Mary and Joaquin Phoenix as Jesus. Directed by Gareth Davis (Lion), the movie is described as “an authentic and humanistic portrait of one of the most enigmatic and misunderstood spiritual figures in history.” With a supporting cast that includes Chiwetel Ejiofor and Tahar Rahim, Mary Magdalene hits theatres just in time for Easter on March 30th, 2018. Check out the trailer after the jump and see what you think.

Is there a new ep. this week?

  • Sean

No sorry we had a technical issue that prevented us from releasing this week.

  • Prestyr John

No worries, thanks for the work y’all do!

  • Tommy

Noo. Will it be delaying the Fincher Premie?

  • Beat_C

this week just wasn’t the same without an FJ episode ????

  • Beat_C

did they think they could avoid the “whitewashing” discussions by casting chiwetel ejiofor and have him talk in accent while everyone else doesn’t? very distracting.

  • Matt the Kiwi

Was thinking that exact same thing! At least cast Kumail Nanjiani as Jesus so he looks roughly like he’s from the right part of the world. I guess it’s ok to make a fictional character look however you want (unless it’s Santa or Dr Who).

    Joaquin Phoenix looks amazing.
