Last weekend we learned that Chuck star Zachary Levi had landed the lead role in DC’s upcoming Shazam! movie and that Dwayne Johnson, who had long been associated with the project, would not be appearing in the film. Johnson is still attached to play Black Adam, an anti-hero of sorts who will get his own solo film, and that project now has a new writer in the form of Adam Sztykiel (Undateable). That still leaves the Shazam! movie in need of a villain, but we are hearing that the role will be filled by none other than Mark Strong. Who else? Hit the jump for more info.
According to THR, Mark Strong is in early talks to play villain Dr. Thaddeus Sivana in the upcoming Shazam! movie. Sivana is a misunderstood mad scientist of sorts with a penchant for strange inventions. He also happens to be bald. He seems like a pretty stereotypical Golden Age baddie although it is unclear if they plan to embrace this or if they will update his character in some way.
Strong is no stranger to playing comic book movie villains, having already already played the DC villain Sinestro in Green Lantern and mob boss Frank D’Amico in Kick-Ass. Outside of comic book movies, he has also played villains in John Carter, Sherlock Holmes and Stardust (among others). It’s not the most creative casting ever, but it’s also hard to argue with it. Do you think Mark Strong is a good choice to play Dr. Sivana?
