We’ve been hearing a lot of good things about the Tonya Harding biopic I, Tonya following its premiere at TIFF last month where it was the runner-up for the People’s Choice Award. Neon acquired the film in one of the biggest acquisitions of the festival and they look to be giving it a major awards season push. Directed by Craig Gillespie (Fright Night, The Finest Hours), the movie stars Margot Robbie as disgraced U.S. figure skater Tonya Harding, who conspired with her husband Jeff Gilooly to injure her arch-rival Nancy Kerrigan at the National Figure Skating Championship in 1994. The movie is said to have a dark, comedic edge to it and the first teaser trailer would seem to support that fact. I, Tonya co-stars Sebastian Stan, Allison Janney, Bobby Cannavale and Caitlin Carver and it hits select theatres on Dec. 8th. Check out the first trailer after the jump and see what you think.
