First Photos of Taylor Kitsch as David Koresh in Waco Mini-Series

Update: The first Waco trailer has also been added after the jump.

Back in June, it was announced that Jaume Collet-Serra (The Shallows) had signed on to direct a movie about David Koresh and the 1993 Waco siege for Annapurna Pictures from a script by Mark Boal (Zero Dark Thirty) and Marc Haimes (Kubo and the Two Strings). Now it appears that there is also a competing television project in the works from Paramount Network and Weinstein Television that may see the light of day first. This is a six-part mini-series called Waco (I guess the movie may have to change its title now) and it stars Taylor Kitsch as David Koresh, along with a supporting cast that includes Michael Shannon, John Leguizamo, Andrea Riseborough, Rory Culkin, Melissa Benoist, Paul Sparks, Shea Whigham, Camryn Manheim and Julia Garner. This week they have released the first images of Kitsch in character and he looks pretty convincing, having dropped 30 pounds for the role. Directed by John Erick Dowdle (Quarantine, No Escape), the mini-series will premiere sometime in January. Check out more photos after the jump and let us know what you think.

Looks like it could be alright. It has been a while since I’ve seen Johnny Legs in anything worthwhile. I had no idea though that Spike TV had turned into the Paramount Network. When the heck did that happen?
