Netflix helped give rise to the current explosion of true crime documentaries with the wildly popular Making a Murderer and several other recent docs but now they are taking a step back to have a little fun with the genre as well. In the tradition of Fred Armisen and Bill Hader’s Documentary Now!, American Vandal is an 8-part mockumentary series that revolves around a young man accused of spray painting penises on teachers’ cars in his high school parking lot. Created by Dan Lagana (Deadbeat), Tony Yacenda (CollegeHumor Originals) and Dan Perrault (Honest Trailers), this looks to have nailed all the hallmarks of recent true crime shows. The only question is, does this concept actually support anything more than a trailer? American Vandal arrives on Netflix on Sept. 15th; check out the trailer after the jump and see what you think.
