If you watched HBO’s Tour de Pharmacy mockumentary this past weekend, the trailer for the upcoming documentary Icarus might seem a little hard to take seriously. But apparently this movie has some mindblowing revelations to offer regarding Russia’s so-called “anti-doping” program and what could be the biggest international sports scandal of all time. Director Bryan Fogel, an amateur biker, consulted with Russian scientist Dr. Grigory Rodchenkov in order to dope himself and see if he could escape detection. In the vein of Christopher Bell’s Bigger, Stronger, Faster* and Gabe Polsky’s Red Army, this looks like another fascinating exploration of sports as propaganda and the somewhat arbitrary rules of human competition. Icarus premieres on Netflix on Aug. 4th; check out the trailer after the jump and see what you think.
