If you’re a fan of Paul Verhoeven’s Starship Troopers, you’re probably at least aware that the movie spawned a CG animated series called Roughnecks: Starship Troopers Chronicles and a couple of dubious direct-to-video live-action sequels in the 2000s. More recently, Sony has been combining both ideas by releasing a new series of DTV animated sequels, first in 2012 with Starship Troopers: Invasion and now this year with Starship Troopers: Traitor of Mars. These movies ignore the events of Starship Troopers 2 and 3, instead acting as direct sequels to the original 1997 film themselves. The new one is somewhat notable because original screenwriter Ed Neumeier wrote the script (although he also wrote the live-action sequels as well) and Casper Van Dien and Dina Meyer return to voice Rico and Dizzy. I have no idea if these are any good, but based on the first trailer it looks pretty dull. Starship Troopers: Traitor of Mars will play in theatres for one night only on Aug. 21st before hitting DVD and Blu-ray later this year; check out the trailer after the jump and see what you think.
