Don’t know if it has been established other than in a deleted scene from Alien, but the victims are used as food for egg creation and sustenance perhaps although Aliens established that a queen alien lays eggs. You do raise an interesting question about the expiration date on eggs. Would be cool if the Aliens were Vegans.

Maybe they could introduce time travel into the franchise to explain how aliens and predators appeared on 21st century earth

A couple things. Yes the crew were scientists who happened to be couples. The rest that were not were sleeping on the ship still. The growth of the xenomorph still doesn’t make sense because Crudup was infected by a classic facehugger. And the baby xenomorph should have resembled the newborn from Hurt.
Also new Frank, didn’t it bother you that the synthetics name was Walter? Complete blow to trilogy/ anthology cred

(A)sh, (B)ishop, (C)all, (D)avid. I took Walter to be a Ridley Scott nod to the final Alien scriptwriters, David Giler and Walter Hill, but who knows? I do recall that Ridley never liked the alphabetization of Android names.

I would say it depends on whose vision is being executed. If you cobble together finances, make a film, and then try to get it distributed, that’s usually a director-driven project. If a studio commissions a film and then hires the film makers, then it’s a producer-driven project. The director is, literally, taking a job. Most TV work falls into this category as well.

This is the problem I’m guessing some people originally had with Prometheus. Do we judge the movie solely on its own with so many more questions posed and fewer answered? Or do we hold out hope that even more questions will finally be answered in the next Prequel/Sequel? Or will it end up repeating this formula and leave us with a wet noodle? I think what you’re saying leaves much to interpretation, Samb. I would simply say that film is director-driven and that television is producer-driven. Don’t know who’s driving the content on streaming services.

Yeah, it’s strange. i just saw “Covenant” this afternoon, and the fact the Frank was “flirting with a 6 out of 5″ is staggering. This movie was – to quote reed – ordinary, it really was: no surprises, no originality, no inspiration.

Another example of a scientist’s emotions putting others’ lives in peril is Anne Hathaway’s character in “Interstellar.” They go to the one planet just so she can be with her boyfriend if I remember correctly.

Just got back from watching Alien: Covenant. I’m with NuFrank on this one, I loved it. The only thing I didn’t like was the alien vision. So many great visuals and like Frank said, Scott’s sci-fi aesthetic is just perfect.

I’m not a Film Junk truther myself, but I do agree with the King of Conspiracy that Jay’s new movie sounds a little bit suspicious.

I have a friend who’s seeing it tonight and I know she has not seen Prometheus. So Junkers, does this movie stand/make sense on its own? Little late to the party, but I just wanted to offer something about Covenant:

On Sean’s point of not liking that the Xenomorph originates from David – it doesn’t. In Prometheus, we’re shown murals and relief carvings of xenomorph figures, one in a Christ pose, so clearly they have been created or existed in the Engineer history before David does any tinkering. David sees various reactions to the goo and impregnation in the events of Prometheus and sees how far he can take that in this film. Also, I don’t think it’s entirely out of the realm of believability that not all Engineers died in that courtyard, giving him test subjects to combine with whatever he birthed from Shaw to equal the queen or whatever we see later on.

Anyway, just my two cents on some nitpicks, I still agree mostly with Jay’s views on A:C.

I consider colonists in sleep pods not to be crew but as cargo, since they don’t run the ship. And do we know those colonists weren’t couples?
